I Don't Have Time For God, I'm Doing My Laundry
If you’re feeling anything like I am by the end of the workweek, you’re tired. Have you had a long day? Do you have family members to look after too? Does the housework need doing? Where did so much laundry come from anyway? I feel like I just got the wash basket down to empty, and now it’s full again!!!
If you answered yes, yes, and yes again, sat shattered on the couch, thinking about your to-do list, I’m with you, girl. BUT we can’t do everything, and sometimes something has to give. If we are honest, sometimes, often & most likely, the thing we give up is time with God. Can you relate? Prayer, reading the bible, or any time in God’s presence gets left until just before we sleep, if at all.
On some days, if God gets any of our time, it’s when we’ve rolled into bed, and quickly done one last check of our emails, Facebook, Instagram, text messages and WhatsApp before we put the mobile device aside, lay down, pull up the duvet, say six or so words to our heavenly father, followed by ‘in Jesus name, Amen’ and then we fall asleep. Am I lying?
Then comes the morning, when we wake up to an alarm on our mobile device (after hitting snooze a minimum of three times), we check our emails, Facebook, Instagram, text messages and WhatsApp’s before we put the mobile device aside, pull back the duvet, jump out of bed, say six or so words to our heavenly father followed by ‘in Jesus name, Amen’, whilst brushing our teeth, in the shower or packing the kids packed lunch, and then off we go with our daily routine, just to come home from a long day and add to the laundry pile! It’s been a routine for some time, right? We are human, and we get tired. But sometimes, it’s the cares of this world that keep us from intimacy with God, but God wants to be intimate with you so that you are better prepared to handle the cares of this world instead of them handling you.
When we don’t prioritise time with God we miss out on beautiful poems like these:
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
How beautiful was that? How soothing to a tired soul? Just what you needed to hear, right? His words so full of hope, restoration, protection, strength and love. I’m going to do what I can to help you right now! I don’t want you to read any further down this post until you’ve taken a few minutes to soak in God’s presence.
INSERT YOUR TIME WITH YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER HERE whatever that looks like to you.
Whether you read the bible, pray, listen, sing, dance, draw, write or just stop to breathe and meditate on Him, just Stop and seek Him for a moment! He wants time with you, his precious daughter.
My friend, thanks for coming back.
How was it? Refreshing, anointed, peaceful, revealing, warming, nourishing?
“Come to me and I will give you rest,” Jesus said to all who are heavy burdened. Maybe right now He is the very thing you need? The laundry can wait. It will still be there when you’re done…(unfortunately! Sorry!) We’re here to guide each other to the very source that is going to help us and lead us in every area of life – God and his word. Our Shepherd.

What can you change or plan today to make sure you have quality time with God tomorrow and every day for the rest of this week? Let’s us know in the comments below xx
Wow! Your headline really says it all! “I don’t have time for God, Im doing laundry!” ouch. We would be ashamed to say it out loud but we live it far too many days!
I’ve started spending a decent amount of time on my audio Bible. It helps.
Being intentional is so important. With 6 kids, I have to put bible time on my daily schedule or I probably wouldn’t remember to stop what I was doing and spend time in his word.
Wonderful advice coming from a mama who’s in it! I’ve found my Bible reading has become a discipline. I read it in spite of feelings for a long enough time that it became a habit. There are still some days I get more out of it than others but any time with Jesus sitting quietly by my side is so worth it!
I am guilty, guilty, guilty. I do believe that Satan will use anything to take us away from our time with God. Thank you for the post I don’t feel so alone in this.
Oh how this spoke to my heart. God has been reminding this truth over and over lately. I am trying my hardest to put down the phone, set aside time to get in Gods word and let Him speak to me. Thank you for another gentle nudge.
Thanks for this. I know I struggle with prioritising time for God. But sometimes it’s not just a matter of rethinking my routine and changing things around. It has to come from a place of actually desiring to spend time with him. I know that if I always put him first, then I would make time, just like we find time for the people or doing the things we love even in the midst of a busy lifestyle.
I am 100% guilty of this. In today’s crazy fast-paced world, this reminder is more appropo than I think we give credit to. Thank you for your words!
Oh my goodness… Such true and timely thoughts as we head toward the end of 2018!
So true. I am pursuing my M.A. in Divinity and I often find myself frustrated that I am studying to know more about God but in the process spending less time with Him.
Wow, what a powerful topic. This hit me hard. I actually took the time to pray before I finished this, because I know that I lack in my prayer life, and even in my devotional time with God. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of life, but It’s hard to do life without God in it.
In this crazy world it is so important that we make time for God. I commend you for not only addressing this but for actually pausing in the middle of your blog post for your reader to do just that – spend time with God.
Wow what a piece, God is just awesome. On Friday at my bible study, this is what I spoke about, being deliberate and going in deep with God, putting all things aside. Also I have been going to a different church the past 2 Sunday’s and the message was so similar. The spirit of God is one . Thank you thank you I can confirm that God is speaking through your blog, cause he has not only spoken to me but confirmed what he has been saying for the past few weeks
We recently moved 850 miles right at the start of our homeschool year and my husband had to travel 3 weeks for work as soon as we moved in. For almost a month straight, about 6 words was all the time I spent with God a day. Shew! I could feel it! For the first time in my life I truly understand what David meant when he said that he thirsted for God. Thank you for the wonderful encouragement! God bless.
Great reminder! If we seek first the kingdom of God, everythingelse qill be added! ?
Life at times is so busy like soooooo busy but I have learned that all busy times are seasonal and seasons don’t last forever. I hold on to the plans that God has for my life which is not to harm me but to prosper me.
right now in my life my Laundry basket is overflowing BUT Jesus is the washing machine, the dryer, the iron and the wardrobe space in my life right now and I trust in his provision for me.
I’m so greatful for community and a safe place to reflect with the Hope Table.
I remember those kind of days., I tried to carve out one morning a month to do a retreat with myself and God.
One of the best things about my life now is the amount of time I can spend with God. Empty nest and retired.
I am guilty of letting the hustle and bustle of life interfere with what should by my first priority; time with God. Thank you for the encouragement not to let the cares of life cause me to neglect my lifeline.
God bless you!
