When it comes to your life is Christ in office AND in power?

2 Pieces Of Chicken, A Portion of Wings & A Side Order of Politics

“Our prime minister is in office but not in power”. Those were the words of the political expert from the university of something or another, trying to explain the current political landscape and recent turns and complexities of the Brexit saga.

PLEASE NOTE, the main focus of this article is NOT politics. I just wanna make that clear. How you voted is totes your business. But here is why I bring up the topic:

As I sat in my car in the KFC drive-thru queue, having just ordered my two pieces of chicken and a portion of wings, I listened to the radio with intrigue as this political-expert-guy explained that our current prime minister had been given a title and put in a position, but actually wasn’t being allowed to have the influence that he wanted. Generally, if one is said to be ‘in office’ they should also have power and authority. But in this scenario, there were multiple people and parties at every turn coming against his choices and blocking his plans. Opposition came even within his team. He was given a position but very little authority. A leader not being given permission to lead even by the people that appointed him to lead. Given the title but not the influence. Given the office but not the power.

I listened still not understanding anything more about politics or Brexit and to be honest not really caring. What I did understand and what my heart cared about was this:

Who Have You Given (Or Not Given) Authority To?

Many of us have accepted Jesus and welcomed Him taking the position of personal saviour in our lives in title, but are yet allow Him to influence our everyday. We have given Him a title but very little authority. We name Him as our spiritual leader but don’t give Him permission to lead and guide our choices. He has the office but we do not allow His power to rule and to reign. We sing songs on Sunday calling Jesus the ‘King of Kings’, but we haven’t yet allowed Him to take His place and reign on the throne of our hearts.

We need to be intentional about seeking God’s face and being obedient to his plans and purposes for us,  so we can live a life less influence by this world and instead live a life more influenced by His word.

Now I can see why many of us do not trust world leaders. The selfish ambition and sinful nature of mankind often means we let one another down, but girl, Jesus ain’t gon’ fail you!

I’m calling us, you and I, as women of God, to assess our walk of faith today and ask ourselves this “Have I given Jesus power and authority in my life?”.

Am I spending time in prayer?
Am I reading and studying the word of God?
Am I seeking and trusting the Holy Spirit to be my counsellor?
Am I hearing the word of God regularly?
And I am applying what God says to me, to my life?
Am I allowing God’s plans and purposes to unfold in my life through obedience and submission?
Is my relationship with God growing deeper?
Is He getting to know me more and am I getting to know Him more?

Dear Google, Font Of All Knowledge

We have other influences vying for our attention all the time. There are often multiple people and sources that we often turn to way before we turn to God. I’ve sure been guilty of jumping onto google for an answer before praying or jumping into God’s word. Do you know anyone that has googled ‘What is my purpose?’, but never or rarely ask God?

Yes, we may have authorities and influences in our lives, at home, work, society and that’s ok, many of them are there for our good and God’s intended structure, but ultimately, all power and authority belongs to God alone. He is the Alpha and the Omega and everything in between. If we are to truly walk in His purpose for our lives, whilst we are here on Earth, we have to submit to God’s authority.

I guess today’s post is about having a moment of reflection and considering who is directing our footsteps? Is it God or are we ignoring His whispers and nudges of direction? Are we allowing the God who is outside of time and can foresee the future to influence our decision making?

Who truly sits on the throne of your heart? When it comes to your life, is Christ in office AND in power?

John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

Jeremiah 10:12-13 “But God made the earth by his power, and he preserves it by his wisdom. With his own understanding, he stretched out the heavens. When he speaks in the thunder, the heavens roar with rain. He causes the clouds to rise over the earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses”

Matthew 22:29 “Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.”

Matthew 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

Romans 1:20 “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities – his eternal power, and divine nature. So, they have no excuse for not knowing God.”

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self – discipline.”
