I Don't Have Time For God, I'm Doing My Laundry

If you’re feeling anything like I am by the end of the workweek, you’re tired. Have you had a long day? Do you have family members to look after too? Does the housework need doing? Where did so much laundry come from anyway? I feel like I just got the wash basket down to empty, and now it’s full again!!!

If you answered yes, yes, and yes again, sat shattered on the couch, thinking about your to-do list, I’m with you, girl. BUT we can’t do everything, and sometimes something has to give. If we are honest, sometimes, often & most likely, the thing we give up is time with God. Can you relate? Prayer, reading the bible, or any time in God’s presence gets left until just before we sleep, if at all.

On some days, if God gets any of our time, it’s when we’ve rolled into bed, and quickly done one last check of our emails, Facebook, Instagram, text messages and WhatsApp before we put the mobile device aside, lay down, pull up the duvet, say six or so words to our heavenly father, followed by ‘in Jesus name, Amen’ and then we fall asleep. Am I lying?

Then comes the morning, when we wake up to an alarm on our mobile device (after hitting snooze a minimum of three times), we check our emails, Facebook, Instagram, text messages and WhatsApp’s before we put the mobile device aside, pull back the duvet, jump out of bed, say six or so words to our heavenly father followed by ‘in Jesus name, Amen’, whilst brushing our teeth, in the shower or packing the kids packed lunch, and then off we go with our daily routine, just to come home from a long day and add to the laundry pile! It’s been a routine for some time, right? We are human, and we get tired. But sometimes, it’s the cares of this world that keep us from intimacy with God, but God wants to be intimate with you so that you are better prepared to handle the cares of this world instead of them handling you.

When we don’t prioritise time with God we miss out on beautiful poems like these:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

~Psalm 23

How beautiful was that? How soothing to a tired soul? Just what you needed to hear, right? His words so full of hope, restoration, protection, strength and love. I’m going to do what I can to help you right now! I don’t want you to read any further down this post until you’ve taken a few minutes to soak in God’s presence.

INSERT YOUR TIME WITH YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER HERE whatever that looks like to you.

Whether you read the bible, pray, listen, sing, dance, draw, write or just stop to breathe and meditate on Him, just Stop and seek Him for a moment! He wants time with you, his precious daughter.

My friend, thanks for coming back.

How was it? Refreshing, anointed, peaceful, revealing, warming, nourishing?

“Come to me and I will give you rest,” Jesus said to all who are heavy burdened. Maybe right now He is the very thing you need? The laundry can wait. It will still be there when you’re done…(unfortunately! Sorry!) We’re here to guide each other to the very source that is going to help us and lead us in every area of life – God and his word. Our Shepherd.
